WRC star overcomes difficulties in snow to finish second and win most points
Elfyn overcame extreme early conditions at Rally Sweden to claim another podium and come away with the highest number of points to bolster his championship challenge.
The Friday stages were soft and tricky and Elfyn was forced to run first on the road, ploughing through deep snow on Friday afternoon and dropping nearly two minutes to the rally leader.
A strong recovery on Saturday morning saw him move up from fifth to third as weather conditions settled, but the road conditions still proved a challenge with tyre wear becoming another factor to manage throughout the day.
Elfyn then stormed into second on Sunday morning, his GR Yaris topping the time sheets and went second fastest through the Power Stage to collect maximum Sunday points and an additional four from the Power Stage – seeing them close the gap to championship leader Thierry Neuville.
The championship now moves to Safari Rally Kenya on 28-31 March for the third different surface in three events.
