Elfyn keeps title fight alive

Brilliant second place in Spain takes championship battle to final round.

Finishing second on the penultimate round of the FIA World Rally Championship at Rally de Espana, Elfyn has ensured the title fight will go down to the final round in Italy next month.

The result, his sixth podium of the season, sees him close the gap to leader Seb Ogier to 17 points.

Elfyn’s Spanish challenge got off to a strong start as he held a 7.9 second lead after the first loop of stages.

But he wasn’t able to maintain that pace and, despite making some adjustments, he lost time as the roads become dirty and dropped back to second by the end of the opening day.

He held that position for the remainder of the event and secured an additional three points on the final Power Stage, taking away seven points more than title rival Ogier.

The final round remains on asphalt with Rally Monza on 19-21 November.
