Elfyn on podium again after powerful Croatia drive

Second place for Evans after a strong showing all weekend.

Elfyn scored his third podium from four events after setting a blistering pace all weekend at Croatia Rally and helping secure another stunning 1-2 finish for his Toyota Gazoo Racing world rally team.

Based from the capital Zagreb, the event featured tricky asphalt roads with many jumps, cuts and the constant threat of rain showers.

Elfyn was on the pace from the very start and took two stage victories on the opening day to end Friday tied for the lead, setting identical overall times with championship rival Thierry Neuville.

The action resumed on Saturday with mixed tyre packages ensuring tight competition all day with the top three crews separated by just fractions of sections on every stage. Elfyn was part of the battle held second place overnight, just 4.9s off Neuville.

The final day saw four short stages and Elfyn closed the gap to 2.6s after the opener but both he and Neuville spun on the first pass of the Power Stage, dropping around 20 seconds.

That opened the door for team-mate Sebastien Ogier who inherited the lead and took victory. Elfyn secured second and his points haul leaves him second in the championship battle, still six points adrift of Neuville.

The championship switches surfaces for Rally Portugal on 9-12 May, the first of seven consecutive gravel events.
