Strong drive in Central European Rally boosts Toyota Gazoo Racing's WRC title push.
Elfyn scored two second-place finishes from two events after sealing another podium finish on the demanding Central European Rally, where he was also the top points scorer from the event.
Starting in Prague and with competitive stages running across Czech Republic, Germany and Austria, the event’s slippery asphalt stages delivered a tough challenge for crews.
Throughout the weekend Elfyn was always challenging for the top times in his GR Yaris Rally1, sealing stage wins and pushing for a podium place from the start.
He mastered the tricky roads, which had changeable grip and some slippery cuts, but lost a few seconds on some tests which ultimately dropped him back from challenging for victory.
However, a clever team tyre strategy on the final day combined with a last-day push for points, saw him take a strong haul of Super Sunday points on his way to finishing second overall, just seven seconds adrift of victory.
His efforts also ensured he took the highest number of championship points from the event, helping his Toyota Gazoo Racing team close the gap at the top of the standings.
The championship battle resumes on Toyota’s home event at Rally Japan, where Elfyn took victory last year.
